Jacqui Fink – Extreme Knitting
Extreme knitting is HUGE right now! (pun totally intended) If you haven’t come across the larger than life crafty trend just yet prepare to be amazed!
The term extreme knitting refers to using standard knitting techniques but on a giant scale. I’m not talking about those lovely chunky needles you would find in a craft store, I mean GIANT!
The first person I saw doing extreme knitting was Aussie Jacqui Fink – Little Dandelion. I first came across her work at an exhibition at The School. Simply incredible!
“My process is entirely self-taught and is underpinned by three great passions: my need for sensory feedback
and my love of both texture and natural fibres. At the heart of my work is the oversized scale my choice of
materials allows me to achieve. For the observer, the scale provides a powerful sensory and aesthetic
platform to illustrate the beauty and rawness of the natural fibres. The textures are rich, luxurious and have
the ability to imbue both solace and joy to the observer.”
Here’s some of Jacqui’s amazing artworks!
Seriously stunning right!
Want to give it a try yourself? Jacqui sells all you need to make a piece yourself! Yarns, Needles and even patterns!
If you feel you might need a little direction you can learn from the master herself at extreme knitting workshops at The School.
