How to: Felt toadstools
One of my favourite creations so far. 🙂
In this post I will show you how to make my super cute felt toadstools.
You will need: (for one toadstool)
Foam cone
This will make the stem
Foam ball
For the top of the toadstool
Two sheets of felt
Choose two colours.
It is HUGELY important to have the right glue for this project or,
as i learnt the hard way it could all go wrong…
Click on the link to see the glue i used.
Pins
Short sequin pins are best
Scissors
Strong enough to cut felt
For cutting the foam.
if you are not sure what a stanley knife is click the link.
Pencil
Something that will show up just enough for you to see it on the felt.
Time to get started!
The Stem
Step 1: Use your stanley knife to cut the tip off the foam cone.
Step 2: Roll the cone over the felt piece and trace out where it rolls. This will show you the area of felt that will be attached to the cone. Draw up a cutting line about 1cm from the cone line. And cut out the shape. This will give you excess to wrap under the cone.
Step 3: Cover the cone in glue and roll the felt over the cone.
Wrap the excess under the base of the cone. Use your pins to secure the felt on the base and tip of the cone. This will keep the felt in position while the glue dries.
The Top
Step 4: Cut the foam ball as shown in the diagram below. You will use the larger section for the top of your toadstool.
Step 5: Coat the foam ball in glue. Wrap the second colour of felt over the ball. Pin excess felt under the ball on the flat surface you have created.
Tip: Place toadstool top up side down in a bowl, approximately the same size as the foam ball. This will help keep the felt attached to the ball while the glue is drying.
Step 6: Cut out circles from the same coloured felt you used for your stem.
Glue these to the top of the of the toadstool.
Step 7: Glue the tip of the step to the under section of the top and you my friend have a toadstool! Super easy and super cute!! 😀
