How to: Ampersand patch
The type lover inside me was screaming out to do this project for a while now. 🙂
You will need:
Black and white felt
White (or black) thread
Scissors
Pins (I always seem to miss something in the picture :P)
To get the shape I wanted I went though a range of fonts and chose the one I liked the most for this project. You don’t have to do this! I have created a pattern sheet for you! Click here and copy it. 🙂
Because of this the ampersand prints I am using in these photos will look different to yours.
Step 1: Print out the pattern and cut out the two ampersand shapes
Step 2: Pin the shape onto the felt
Step 3: Cut around the paper shape
yay!
Step 4: I had trouble using the pattern pinned on to cut out the shape because some of the sections are so fiddly so I decided to trace the shape onto the felt instead.
Much better. Now you can cut it out without worrying about the paper.
Step 5: Pin the white shape onto the black one. Use this to work out where exactly you want the smaller one to be.
Step 6: Get sewing!
Stitch the two layers together.
FINISHED!!
Now you just have to work out what you want to put it on!
Embellish a note book
Tack it onto your favourite pair of trackies. Thats what I am going to do 🙂
Or pop it onto a t-shirt!
If you are going to put it on something you are going to need to wash make sure you use a felt that can be washed!! You don’t want to spend all that time making something super awesome and then wash it and it gets wrecked!
Just incase you missed it here is the link to download the pattern. Click here and you can copy it onto your computer or just print it out from there. 🙂
How would you use your ampersand patch? 🙂

love the idea!!!! i will make it somewhere in the future for sure;D
I opened your link but the bild is not the same as yours
hey tara. sorry what do you mean? the bild? if you mean it looks different it's becuase I made the pattern after I did the tutorial. The ones I used where just ones I typed up but I made a better one for you guys. 🙂
This is actually perfect timing! I was looking to make a piece of art with my hubby and my name on it, but couldn't find an ampersand! I'm thinking I may make it 3D and use the felt like you did.
Thanks!
