Etsy customer tip #2
Half decent photography.
(warning: this post contains some very hypocritical statements, like I said I haven’t had a lot of sales success, I am writing these tips from the buyers point of view… 🙂 )
This may sound harsh but if you only have crappy photos don’t bother putting the item up! I have items in my store with crap photos and I cringe every time I look at them. I know people are looking at it and thinking wow, that’s crap, why are they selling that! And you know what I hate to sat it but it’s true. I do the same things myself! People do think things like that…
If I see an item with crappy photography I think gee they just wasted 20c by bothering to list that because no one is going to buy it… I have titled this tip “half decent photography” because I’m not saying you need to be an expert photographer or don’t bother, they just need to be “decent.”
Homework:
Have a look through etsy. When you find a product shot that you like grab a piece of paper and a pen and write down 3 things you like about the photos. E.g. Good lighting, nice use of props, interesting angle etc… Do this for at least 5 items. This will give you a list of things you can work on with your own photography.
Simplest way to get a “half decent” product shot is to use natural light and a large white piece of cardboard. Simple but effective. 🙂
