Is machine embroidery taking over?
When I sat down to write this post it was just going to feature a bunch of awesome embroidery work but that made me think about my experience today and I want to see what you guys think…
I went to a craft expo in Sydney today. It’s the kind of expo that has massive amounts of stuff for quilting and scrapbooking but not much else. Even though I know this is the case I still go every year without fail and this year I was really excited to stock up on some embroidery threads. (DMC kind of stuff…) I thought FOR SURE I would find stacks of stuff and I my bank account and I wouldn’t be on speaking terms for a while. But no. Next to nothing. I came home with three washi tapes. That’s it. I struggled to find any stall selling hand embroidery threads but there where stacks of places selling goods for machine embroidery. This puzzled me.
I didn’t really think anything of this lack of hand embroidery until I got home. I love Craftsy, I had a brilliant idea that maybe I could get one of their videos about embroidery and learn a few things. But no. Again I was left with nothing. Only machine embroidery.
Is hand embroidery not so popular these days?
I personally think it’s super popular right now! Maybe it’s just because I’m loving it but from watching the goings on in the online craft world it seems to be massive. Does it have something to do with the age group that these fairs are designed for? Are nana’s getting all excited about machine embroidery and not bothering to do it the old fashion way? Surely not!
What do you think? Are you loving hand embroidery right now?
Is it all just a coincidence and embroidery is hotter than ever?
