How to: Fairies
FAIRIES!!
Making these little fairy friends seriously changed my life. If it wasn’t for them I might not have started crafted. I first made these over a year ago for our fantasy window at the shop. They have held a big place in my heart ever since. Now I’m going to show you all how to make one of your very own. π
You will need:
Big Foam Egg – Head
Small Foam Egg – Feet
Foam Cone – Body
Felt Sheet – Dress and wings
Pipe cleaners – wings
Flowers – hat
Foam Safe Glue
Acrylic Paint
Marker
Scissors
Knife or Blade
Step 1: Prepare the Head and Feet
Cut the small egg in half. This will make the feet.
Paint the big egg and both halves of the small egg.
Make sure you donβt forget about the flat parts of the feet.
Tip:
To get the best result when painting the foam eggs create a coat hanger style hook from a piece of pipe cleaner. Push this into the egg. This gives you a handle while painting the egg and you can also now hang the egg to dry. Becuase of this you can paint the whole egg at once because you don’t have to put it down. π
Step 2: The Dress
Use your knife to cut off the tip of the cone.
Roll the cone over the felt piece. Trace out where it rolls.
This will show you the area of felt that will be attached to the cone.
Draw a cutting line about one inch from the cone line.
This will make the dress go past the cone which will hide the leg join.
Cover the cone in glue and roll the cut out felt over the cone.
Curve a pipe cleaner and attatch it to the back of the cone towards the top.
This will create the arms.
Bend the tips right round to make hands.
Attach a flower to the top of the cone creating the collar of the dress.
Step 3: Legs
Cut a pipe cleaner in half.
Sick one end of the pipe cleaner into the foot at the large end.
Stick the other end of the pipe cleaner into the base of the cone.
Repeat this for both legs.
Step 4: Head
Cut off a small piece of pipe cleaner. Stick one end into the top of the cone.
Stick the other end into the point of the big egg.
Leave a section of pipe cleaner showing. This will create a neck.
Glue flowers to the top of the head to create a nice hat/hair.
Step 5: Wings
Bend a pipe cleaner to make your desired wing shape.
Make two of these.
Glue them down on the left over felt. When the glue is set cut around the pipe cleaners.
Put glue in the centre of the wings on the pipe cleaner side and attach them to the body.
Finished!
