Etsy selling tips from a customers point of view…
I am not going to pretend I am the be all and end all of etsy selling knowledge, after all I have only made 10 sales… However I have made many purchases from etsy, and after working in retail for almost 5 years now I think I know a thing or two about good customer service and what your etsy customers look for in a hand made product.
Throughout this week I will be doing a series of posts discussing things you can do both pre and post sale to keep your customers happy. Happy customers give good feedback and really happy customers will come back to you to buy more of your items. 🙂
To start things off here is my first happy etsy customer tip.
International postage.
As most of you know I live in Australia. Recently I have needed some items shipped to me as fast as possible so I have asked sellers what they charge for a faster shipping option. Several of them have come back to me with prices and time allowance assuming I live in the states. (I will say it was probably silly of me not to say in my message that I require postage to australia but I’m sure I’m not the only customer out there who has made this mistake…) I then need to double check that this is the price for shipping to Australia and usually it isn’t…
Most people have where they are from in their profiles, if anyone asked for a postage quote double check where they are from. This is not only good for convenience but if the customer is from overseas, like my self they will be impressed that you took the initiative to check where they are before quoting a price.

Tip for etsy shoppers: when you are asking for a shipping quote tell the seller where the package will be shipped to. Saves a lot of time. 🙂
Do you have any other good tips to do with postage?

I am an etsy seller, and I charge ZERO for shipping at the moment. Maybe in the future I will charge for shipping but nothing irks me more than when I order something off Etsy and they are charging double or triple what it costs to ship the item. As someone who ships a lot, I know that a small feather weight item isn't costing you 4 dollars to ship. I ship various weights and generally my sewn items (pouches and such) cost $1.71 to ship with plastic wrap, tissue paper, invoice, twine, a sticker, and a thank you card. You should do a post about charging correct shipping. The shipping cost should be exactly what you lose to ship, it's not a way to make extra bucks.
Totally agree with you on that one Lauren! Nothing deters return customers like being way over charged for postage. They can see very clearly on the envelope how much you are charged for postage. You are not going to get more business from that customer if you over charge them.
I don't have any tips.. buuuut! I am in the middle of your magazine! and i'm in love! i'm planning t make a post about it!!! i hope you don't have anything against it??
