Artist spotlight: Layla Amber
Layla Amber is hands down one of my favourite handmade sellers. I own 4 of of her pieces and have bought them for friends too. Her latest creations, the woodland collection are all made from birch wood. I am the happy carer for one of her gorgeous little foxes. If you follow me on instagram you will have already seen this cutie a few times. 😉
I love this range so much that I asked her to share with us how she makes these amazing little creatures.
This is how the magic happens…
I start by doing a lot of research and some rough sketches just playing around with ideas. I then develop those sketches into a final drawing (this can often take a while to get right!) I then put the drawing into Adobe Illustrator to prepare it for the laser cutter.
The designs are then laser cut in birch wood. They need to be lightly sanded after this as they look a bit burnt. (they have a lovely woody smell just after they’ve been cut!)
I then use danish oil on them to give them a lovely finish and to protect the wood.
They are then made into the final pieces!
Are they not some of the most beautiful little creatures you have ever seen? 🙂
If you haven’t already make sure you check out her website. You will not be disappointed. 🙂
