Meet my sponsor: Art by Kelly Michelle
Hello crafty friends! Meet one of my wonderful sponsors Kelly.
What inspired you to start an Etsy store?
I actually wanted to start my own art business as early as 7th grade. I had forgotten about that dream until late last year. I saw someone mention Etsy on a daytime talk show, checked it out, and really loved it. A few months later, I started my own Etsy shop. I really love art, crafts, and using my creativity. It makes things a lot more fun and relaxing.
Who are some other sellers you admire?
I love Cyndiorginals, who is a captain on one of my teams. She works really hard to keep our team going. I like Scrapcuts because they have such a huge variety.
I also like, YesterdaysMemories09, Cherie4e, TAKJewelryDesigns, and Treasure2Remember. There are way too many too name, but those are just a few off the top of my head.
Oh yes. Ever since I can remember, I have always loved arts and crafts. I have always loved to draw, color, and make crafty and creative works of art.
I really love selling on Etsy. It is easy and fun to sell on there, but I like it mostly because of the people I have met and the connections I have made on Etsy. I highly recommend joining teams, because that is what has got me to where I am today in regards to my shop and learning and knowing more about Etsy. If I could pick one thing, my least favorite thing would be the fees. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t really mind the fees too much because on Etsy there aren’t really that many fees. If I had a choice, I’d just rather be on Etsy for free. But I guess it doesn’t work that way, huh? 🙂 I guess I just picked it for the sake of picking a least favorite, but it really isn’t that big of deal.
There are many resources on Etsy and other places that can give you solid information, even before you begin your business. You should definitely do some research before you get started. Decide what kind of shop you want to have, what materials you will need to create these items, and a monthly budget. There are ways to advertise your business when you first get started, such a blog sponsorship, word of mouth, and getting your own blog/facebook/twitter account, etc., for your business. It does take a lot of patience and perseverance, but I think it really can be worth it in the long run. It is important that you continue to refine your craft, products, and know-how in how to run a online business. Most of all, have fun! Take it seriously, but not to the point where you are not enjoying your craft and sharing it with others. It does also take risks, as with any business. So, you need to weigh it out to see if it is really right for you. Either way, continue to enjoy art and do what you love.
