Fabric printing using Posca pens and foam
You might have seen in my Etsy shop I sell fabric button earrings. Just like 100’s of others people… I wanted to find a way to make mine different. Not just using the same fabrics as everyone else. To start I collected some vintage fabric and have made a few using them but it just wasn’t enough. I wanted more individuality to my pieces. So as a result I have started playing with making my own prints and drawings on fabric. Soon I will have pieces in my shop that are not just “hand made” but the fabric has been HAND drawn or printed too! Not just my design printed on fabric but every piece will be hand doodled by yours truly! I started to have a play, looking at different techniques I could use to create original one of a kind fabric prints. I am so IN LOVE with this process I couldn’t resist sharing these processes with you guys!
Over the next week or so I will be sharing with you 6 different ways to make prints on fabric using Posca pens. If you downloaded the second issue of Crafted mag you will have seen the article I wrote about all the different things you can do with these awesome pens.
These are not sponsored posts. I genuinely love these pens and want to share some fun techniques with you guys. Hope you like them! 🙂
Step one
Cut your foam into your desired shape. You will get a cleaner result from craft foam, that smooth colourful stuff, I chose this foam because I wanted some texture in the print. (Surprise, surprise, I chose triangles. he he)
Step two
Stick the foam pieces onto a cotton reel. I used a heavy strength double sided tape. I chose this option so I could pull the foam pieces off and changed them if I needed to.
Step three
Stretch your fabric in an embroidery hoop. By holding the fabric tight you will get a nice clean result from your print.
Step four
Colour your stamp with the posca. Apply a generous amount of paint as it does dry fairly fast.
Step five
Get stamping! Re-colour your stamp each time you use it for the best result.
One of the great things about using Posca pens for stamping is that if there is any bits that didn’t print as well as you would you wanted it to you can just draw over the top. Easy peasy!
